Andrew Carmellini’s newest restaurant, Lafayette, only four days old when we were there, was already the hottest place in town. That was confirmed when we saw Sophia Vergara sitting a few tables away. The restaurant is gorgeous in the style of a grand French cafe complete with a pastry shop. Don’t miss the crab tartine, Moroccan lamb chops, duck breast with kumquats, any of the pastas, apple tart and the fantastic cocktail Rive Gouche.
